What is inhalant abuse?
More commonly known as "glue-sniffing", inhalant abuse is the deliberate sniffing of vapours or fumes from common household products and substances, such as glue or paint thinner.
What are the effects of inhalant abuse?
Some people do not know that sniffing glue is harmful and may wrongly perceive it to be less dangerous than taking drugs. In reality, inhalants are just as toxic and addictive as drugs and we should never think of even trying it out of curiosity.
The use of inhalants can cause brain, nerve, liver and other damages to the body.
An inhalant abuser may die from suffocation anytime. This is known as Sudden Sniffing Death.
It can happen on the very first time or any other time the abuser sniffs glue. Inhalant abuse also affects the growth and development of muscles, nerves and organs.
Normal activities like running and shouting can cause death by heart failure to an inhalant abuser.
So next time someone asks you to try glue-sniffing for fun, remember to say No! and stay clear of these harmful substances. Also remember, real friend will never pressure you to try something that is bad for you!
