Flash Games Competition: Games Against Drug Abuse

The “Flash Games Competition: Games Against Drug Abuse” is a flash game creation competition.

 

It is jointly organised by the National Council Against Drug Abuse (NCADA) and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), in collaboration with the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) and DigiPen Institute of Technology - Singapore.

  

Objectives

  • To engage youths and create awareness on drug abuse
  • To draw on the creativity of IT savvy youths to develop anti-drug based game products that have an edutainment value to spread the anti-drug message to youths aged 25 years and below through play

  

Theme

The theme for the competition is “Life Does Not Rewind – Make the Right Choice: Choose Life, Not Drugs.”

All participating teams are required to incorporate the theme into their game submission.

 

Eligibility

The competition is open to all full-time students from local universities, polytechnics and ITEs.

Students are required to form teams (1 - 3 members), which can comprise students from any of the institutions mentioned above (team can comprise of a university student, a polytechnic student and an ITE student).

 

Duration

October 2010 – April 2011

 

Competition Milestones

There are three rounds of assessment for the competition.

 

Round 1

Concept-Pitch Document Submission: 18 November 2010

Teams are required to submit a 5 – 10 page Concept-Pitch Document that explains their game idea. A group of semi-finalists will be selected.

 

Round 2

Game Design Document Submission: 8 December 2010

Teams will be required to submit a complete Game Design Document that details their game concept.

Presentation to panel of judges: 15 and 16 December 2010

Teams are required to present the game concept to the panel of judges where 3 finalists will be selected.

 

Round 3

Final Game (Training and development): January 2011 to 20 April 2011

The 3 finalist teams will meet with DigiPen faculty and staff to outline the game and work on the technical needs in developing the final game. DigiPen Institute of Technology - Singapore will train the finalists with the programming skills necessary to develop the games, and will provide management to help keep the projects on time. The games will be judged at the end of Round 3 to decide on the first, second and third placing.

Results & Awards Ceremony: April/May 2011

The ranking of the 3 finalist teams will be announced and the winning teams will stand to win prizes to be awarded in April/May (date to be announced later).

Prizes

In addition to the training they will receive at DigiPen for actual game development, the top three winning teams will also stand to win attractive prizes at the end of the competition!

Third Prize    Prizes worth $1,200
