Execution of a Convicted Drug Trafficker - 30 July 2025

1.      A 44-year-old Malaysian, who was convicted of trafficking by delivering to his co-offender a controlled drug, had his capital sentence carried out on 30 July 2025.  

2.     He was accorded full due process under the law, and was represented by legal counsel during the trial and appeal. 

3.    The President, on the advice of the Cabinet, did not exercise his power of clemency in relation to the convicted drug trafficker. 

4.    Capital punishment is imposed only for the most serious crimes, such as the trafficking of significant quantities of drugs which cause very serious harm, not just to individual drug abusers, but also to their families and the wider society.
