Rallying Community Support for a Drug-Free Singapore

24 Jun 2023

The DrugFreeSG Campaign 2023 is organised by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) in conjunction with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which falls annually on 26 June. On this day, people around the world come together to recognise the harms of drugs and drug abuse, and pledge to strengthen action and co-operation to achieve a world free of drug abuse.

2.      A DrugFreeSG Carnival is also being held at Our Tampines Hub from 24 to 25 June, as part of this year’s campaign, to rally community support for a drug-free Singapore. The Carnival featured performances by local artistes and CNB’s community partners, including Bapa Sepanjang Hayat (Centre of Fathering Singapore), as well as interest groups from People’s Association Tampines North and Tampines Changkat Community Centre, as a display of the community’s united stand for a drug-free Singapore.

3.      Guest of Honour Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Minister of State for the Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of National Development, also performed a couple of songs with local band The Yusoffs at the DrugFreeSG Carnival on 24 June to symbolise the joint community effort in the drug-free cause.

4.       Members of the public can learn about the harmful effects of drugs at the DrugFreeSG Carnival through reimagined arcade games, and pledge their support for a drug-free Singapore by placing an anti-drug ribbon onto a pledge wall. Samples of cannabis and a mock cannabis cultivation display were also showcased at the Carnival to create awareness on the dangers of cannabis.

5. The annual DrugFreeSG Light-Up will be held on 26 June, from 7.30pm to midnight. This is the sixth DrugFreeSG Light-Up since 2018. Singapore’s iconic buildings and structures will be illuminated in green or white, colours of the Anti-Drug Ribbon[1], which symbolise ‘Health’, ‘Vitality’ and ‘Strength’. The event is a display of Singapore’s united stance against drugs. Forty-three partners are participating in the DrugFreeSG Light-Up this year, including ten new community partners participating for the first time.[2]

6. There are various other activities under the DrugFreeSG Campaign 2023, including DrugFreeSG Pop-Up Booths that will be set up across Singapore from 28 June to 30 August 2023.[3] A series of online engagements will also be held, including a photo contest, an Augmented Reality Instagram filter and #DrugFreeSG stickers. More details can be found on CNB’s Facebook and Instagram (@CNB.DrugFreeSG).
