100 suspected drug offenders arrested in island-wide operation

          Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) arrested 100 suspected drug offenders in an island-wide drug operation from 14 to 23 March 2022. During the operation, controlled drugs of about 279g of heroin, 404g of ‘Ice’, 6,308g of cannabis, 237g of ketamine, 2g of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS), more than 709g of ‘Ecstasy’ tablets, 197 Erimin-5 tablets, 19 LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) stamps and 200ml of liquid suspected to contain GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) were seized. These drugs have an estimated street value of about $382,000. The youngest arrested is a 16-year-old male Singaporean for suspected drug abuse.

2.           Some of the areas covered during this island-wide operation included Choa Chu Kang, Macpherson, Seng Kang and Tampines.

16 March 2022: Man arrested in the vicinity of Boon Lay Place

3.            In one of the cases in the island-wide operation, CNB officers raided a residential unit in the vicinity of Boon Lay Place in the morning of 16 March. The occupant of the unit, a 57-year-old Singaporean man, had refused to comply with the lawful orders of the officers and necessary force was used to gain entry to effect the arrest. Four packets containing about 1g of ‘Ice’ and various drug paraphernalia were seized from the unit.

4.           Prior to the man’s arrest, substances believed to be controlled drugs were suspected to have been discarded out of the unit’s window. A small packet stained with ‘Ice’ and drug paraphernalia were later recovered by the officers.

16 and 17 March 2022: Man arrested in the vicinity of Jalan Damai

5.           In the evening of 16 March, officers from Singapore Police Force (SPF) responded to a call for assistance in a residential unit in the vicinity of Jalan Damai. A 22-year-old Singaporean man was arrested for suspected drug-related offences and CNB was alerted.

6.           A total of about 37g of ‘Ice’, 3,026g of cannabis and 122 Erimin-5 tablets were recovered from different locations in the unit, along with various drug paraphernalia and cash amounting to $5,580. Seven knives, a chopper and an airsoft gun were also found in his room. The man was later escorted to his official residence in the vicinity of Bedok North Road on 17 March, where various drug paraphernalia and another airsoft gun were seized.

21 March 2022: Man and woman arrested in the vicinity of Bukit Batok East Ave 6

7.           In the afternoon of 21 March, CNB officers arrested a 43-year-old Singaporean man in the vicinity of Bukit Batok East Ave 6. A total of about 23g of ‘Ice’ and 220g of ‘Ecstasy’ tablets were recovered from him. The man was then escorted to his residence in the same vicinity, where a 40-year-old woman was arrested at the lift landing of the residential unit. A total of about 13g of heroin, 269g of ‘Ice’, 3,263g of cannabis, 229g of ketamine, 489g ‘Ecstasy’ tablets, 73 Erimin-5 tablets, 18 LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) stamps, 200ml of liquid suspected to contain GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) were seized from the residential unit, along with weighing scales and packaging materials. One Erimin-5 tablet and various drug paraphernalia was also seized from the man’s vehicle parked in the same vicinity.

8.         AC Lim Fung Suan, Director of Enforcement Division Sector 2, said of the island-wide operation:

“CNB has worked tirelessly to stem the flow of drugs to keep Singapore safe. Our officers have put in a lot of hard work to bring drug offenders to justice, even amidst dangerous and unpredictable situations involving offenders who may turn violent against them. At CNB and the Home Team, we believe that drugs have no place in Singapore, and we are committed to keep our streets safe from drugs.”


9.           Under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, it is an offence for a person, on his or her own behalf, or on behalf of any other person, whether or not that other person is in Singapore, to traffic in a controlled drug, offer to traffic in a controlled drug; or to do or offer to do any act preparatory to or for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug. If a person is found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of pure heroin (diamorphine), 250g of methamphetamine or 500g of cannabis, he or she may face the mandatory death penalty.

10.           Investigations into the drug activities of all arrested suspects are ongoing.
