79 arrested in Island-Wide Anti-Drug Operation; Drugs seized enough to feed 2160 abusers for a week

The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) arrested 79 suspected drug offenders in an island-wide anti-drug operation from 4 to 8 August 2025. A total of about 3,457g of heroin, 909g of ‘Ice’, 3g of cannabis, 5 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets, 5 Erimin-5 tablets and 1 bottle of GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) were seized. The drugs seized are estimated to be worth more than $470,000. The heroin, ‘Ice’ and cannabis seized can potentially feed the addiction of 2160 abusers for a week.

2. Some of the areas covered during this island-wide operation included Ang Mo Kio, Bukit Batok, Jurong, Pasir Ris, Tampines and Yishun.

3. In the evening of 5 August, a 25-year-old Malaysian man was arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint for attempting to smuggle drugs into Singapore via a Malaysian-registered car. Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers had directed the car for enhanced checks and found several biscuit packages suspected to contain controlled drugs on the rear passenger seat of the car. CNB officers were immediately alerted to the detection and conducted further checks. The biscuit packages were later found to contain about 2,033g of heroin and 731g of ’Ice’.

4. In the early morning of 6 August, acting on information received, CNB officers launched an operation in the vicinity of Jurong West and Henderson Road where a 53-year-old Singaporean man, a 39-year-old Malaysian man and a 43-year-old Malaysian woman were arrested for suspected drug offences. The 39-year-old Malaysian man was found with 60g of ‘Ice’ and keycards to a hotel located in the vicinity of Geylang. With the keycards recovered, CNB officers swiftly raided the hotel rooms and found a total of about 1,421g of heroin, 62g of ‘Ice’ and drug paraphernalia.

5. Later the same day, through follow-up investigations, a second follow-up operation was launched in the vicinity of Tampines which saw the arrest of a 28-year-old Malaysian man for suspected drug offences.

Swift enforcement efforts lead to arrest of eight suspected drug offenders

6. In the morning of 5 August, ICA officers at Woodlands Checkpoint directed a motorcycle driven by a 19-year-old man for enhanced check when he claimed that he had mistakenly entered the checkpoint and had no intention to depart Singapore. About 0.8g of ‘Ice’ was subsequently uncovered under the motorcycle seat. CNB was alerted to the detection and conducted further checks on the man and the motorcycle.

7. On the same day, through follow-up investigations, CNB officers launched an operation and raided a residential unit in the vicinity of Maude Road which saw the arrest of a 25-year-old woman, a 25-year-old man and a 27-year-old man. Prior to entering the unit, CNB officers observed items being thrown from the unit onto the ground floor. Forced entry was effected as the suspects refused to comply with the lawful orders of the officers to open the door. The disposed items, including about 3g of ‘Ice’ and various drug paraphernalia were recovered and seized.

8. Later that evening, CNB officers raided another unit in the vicinity of Marsiling Drive where two women, aged 18 and 20, and two men, aged 23 and 29, were arrested. A search of the unit was conducted and various drug paraphernalia were seized. Preliminary investigations found that the four suspects were abusing drugs together in the unit prior to the arrest.

9. All eight suspects arrested are Singaporeans.

10. Under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, it is an offence for a person, on his or her own behalf, or on behalf of any other person, whether or not that other person is in Singapore, to traffic in a controlled drug, offer to traffic in a controlled drug; or to do or offer to do any act preparatory to or for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug. If a person is found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of diamorphine or “pure heroin”, or more than 250g of methamphetamine, he or she may face the mandatory death penalty.

11. Investigations into all arrested suspects are ongoing.
