CNB operation net large haul of Cannabis & 'Ice'; drugs seized enough to feed 1,200 abusers for a week

On 4 June 2024, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) mounted an operation which netted a large haul of drugs, including about 4.5kg of cannabis and 968g of ‘Ice’. The estimated worth of the drugs seized in this operation is about $692,000. The cannabis and ‘Ice’ seized in this operation can feed the addiction of about 1,200 abusers for a week.

2. In the late hours of 4 June, CNB officers intercepted a car at a multi-storey carpark in the vicinity of Choa Chu Kang Street 51. The driver of the car, a 38-year-old man and the passenger, a 27-year-old man, were both arrested. Both are Singaporeans.

3. A search of the car recovered about 4.5kg of cannabis, 968g of ‘Ice’, 63g of ketamine, 1,180 Erimin-5 tablets, 1,170g of ‘Ecstasy’ and 181 LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) stamps. Both men were then escorted to a riser nearby where another 50 Erimin-5 tablets were recovered.

4. Two CNB officers sustained lacerations on their arms while effecting the arrest as the suspects had refused to comply with officers’ lawful request and resisted arrest violently. The two officers have since received outpatient treatment for their injuries.

5. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Aaron Tang, Director of Intelligence Division, said:

“Drug traffickers only care about making as much profit as possible and will stop at nothing to get at that, even if it means causing harm to our society and inflicting injuries to CNB officers who are carrying out their duties. But this will not deter us from carrying out our mission to take them out. In fact, this will only strengthen our resolve for us to work even harder to disrupt their nefarious drug activities.”

6. Under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, it is an offence for a person, on his or her own behalf, or on behalf of any other person, whether or not that other person is in Singapore, to traffic in a controlled drug, offer to traffic in a controlled drug; or to do or offer to do any act preparatory to or for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug. If a person is found guilty of trafficking more than 250g of methamphetamine or 500g of cannabis, he or she may face the mandatory death penalty.

7. Investigations into the drug activities of the arrested suspect are ongoing.
