From 17 to 18 January 2026, Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) participated in an operation led by Indonesia’s National Narcotics Board (BNN) in Batam, Indonesia, demonstrating the close international cooperation between both agencies in combating transnational drug threats.
2. As part of CNB’s efforts in combatting drug use by Singaporeans and Permanent Residents overseas, CNB participated in the BNN-led anti-drug operation which was launched in the late night of 17 January targeting a public entertainment outlet in Batam, Indonesia. Over 100 persons, including four Singaporeans, were checked during the operation. Five Indonesians were arrested for suspected drug-related offences.
3. The operation involved officers from Indonesia's BNN, Indonesia National Police (POLRI), Indonesia National Armed Forces (TNI), Directorate General of Immigration, Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC), and Singapore's CNB. This coordinated multi-agency effort underscores both countries' commitment to disrupting cross-border drug activities and protecting their communities from the harms of drugs.

4. Commenting on the operation, Assistant Commissioner Aaron Tang, Deputy Director of CNB for Operations, said:
“This operation exemplifies the strong partnership that CNB has with our Indonesian law enforcement counterparts in the fight against drugs. We take a collective stand against drug trafficking and drug abuse, fighting the transnational scourge of drugs. This operation serves as a warning to drug abusers who think that they can evade CNB’s detection by going overseas to consume drugs. There is no refuge for you if you continue to commit drug offences, especially if you disrespect the laws of other countries as well."
5. Under Section 8A of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, it is an offence for a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident of Singapore to consume controlled drugs outside Singapore.
