Execution of Two Convicted Drug Traffickers - 21 August 2026

1. A 68-year-old Singaporean and a 34-year-old Malaysian, who were convicted for trafficking in controlled drugs, had their capital sentences carried out on 21 August 2026.
2. They were accorded full due process under the law, and were represented by legal counsel during the trial and appeal.
3. The President, on the advice of the Cabinet, did not exercise his power of clemency in relation to the convicted drug traffickers.
4. Capital punishment is imposed only for the most serious crimes, such as the trafficking of significant quantities of drugs which cause very serious harm, not just to individual drug abusers, but also to their families and the wider society.
