Five arrested for suspected involvement in drug trafficking activities on chat application

             Five Singaporeans, aged between 17 and 21, were arrested in operations conducted by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) at various locations on 27 September 2023 targeted at drug transactions conducted through a chat application. During the operations, scheduled weapons, and a total of about 204g of ‘Ice’, 143g of cannabis, 12 ‘Ecstasy’ pills, 12g of ketamine, one bottle of liquid substance believed to be controlled drugs, cash amounting to $3,600 and various drug paraphernalia were seized. The drugs seized are estimated to be worth about $71,000.

2.           In the afternoon of 27 September, CNB officers conducted an anti-drug operation at a residential unit located in the vicinity of Boon Lay Drive and arrested a 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old girl. Forced entry was effected as the suspects had refused to comply with the lawful orders of the officers to open the door. From within the unit, CNB officers seized cash amounting to $3,600.

3.           The 20-year-old man was escorted to his vehicle in a nearby open carpark. From within the vehicle, CNB officers recovered a knuckle duster, knife, and a total of about 83g of ‘Ice’, 48g of cannabis, 12g of ketamine, and 9 ‘Ecstasy’ pills.

Arrest of 18-year-old boy in the vicinity of Boon Lay Avenue

4.          In the same evening on 27 September, CNB officers arrested an 18-year-old boy at a residential unit located in the vicinity of Boon Lay Avenue. The 18-year-old was escorted to his vehicle in a nearby multi-storey carpark. From within the vehicle, a total of about 121g of ‘Ice’, 95g of cannabis, about 3 ‘Ecstasy’ pills, one bottle of liquid substance believed to be controlled drugs, a digital weighing scale and drug paraphernalia were recovered. 

Evidence bags contain: crystals, powder, plant material, and two packages of "Medicated Nerds Rope Bites".

5.          Also in the same evening on 27 September, CNB officers conducted an anti-drug operation at a residential unit located in the vicinity of Jurong West Street 93 and arrested a 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl. Forced entry was effected as the suspects had refused to comply with the lawful orders of the officers to open the door. From within the unit, several scheduled weapons were seized.

6.          DAC Chang Gim Fook, Deputy Director of Intelligence Division, said of the operations: 

"Through our investigations on persons who had bought drugs via a chat application, CNB successfully mounted the operations on 27 September and arrested five persons for their suspected involvement in drug trafficking. Drug offenders who think that such chat applications would enable them to transact anonymously cannot be more wrong. There is no safe haven, whether online or offline, for such nefarious activities. CNB will continue to monitor, track down and take decisive actions against them.”

7.           Investigations by CNB into the drug activities of all arrested suspects are ongoing. The Police are investigating the 20-year-old man and 21-year-old man arrested in the vicinity of Jurong West Street 93 for possession of scheduled weapons.
