Heroin and Cannabis seized in separate operations seizure could feed 1,200 abusers for a week

        The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) conducted two separate operations on 9 January 2025, which saw the arrest of two men, both Singaporeans, and a large amount of drugs and cash seized.  The drugs seized had an estimated worth more than SGD254,000 and could potentially feed the addiction of about 1,200 abusers for a week.

Forced entry at Upper Cross Street

2.      In the morning hours of 9 January, CNB officers raided a residential unit in the vicinity of Upper Cross Street.  Forced entry was effected as the suspect refused to heed the lawful orders of the officers to be granted access into the unit.  The suspected drug trafficker, a 59-year-old man, was arrested and about 1,965g of heroin, 118g of ‘Ice’, two bottles of methadone, various drug utensils and cash amounting to SGD32,378.26 and USD1 were recovered from within the unit.

Raid at Pasir Ris Street 71

3.        In a separate operation on the same morning, CNB officers raided a residential unit in the vicinity of Pasir Ris Street 71 and arrested a 50-year-old man within the unit.  A total of about 1,378g of cannabis, various drug utensils and cash in various currencies amounting to SGD7,594, MYR292, IDR3,786,000, SAR20 and EGP690 were recovered from within the unit.

4.       Under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, it is an offence for a person, on his or her own behalf, or on behalf of any other person, whether or not that other person is in Singapore, to traffic in a controlled drug, offer to traffic in a controlled drug; or to do or offer to do any act preparatory to or for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug.  If a person is found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of diamorphine or “pure heroin”, or more than 500g of cannabis, he or she may face the mandatory death penalty.  

5.        Under Section 6 of the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act 1992, any person who is convicted of one or more drug dealing offences is subjected to have the benefits derived by him from drug dealing offences confiscated.

6.         Investigations into the drug activities of the arrested suspects are ongoing.
