Joint news release: Drugs including heroin and cannabis uncovered from detection at Tuas Checkpoint

1.        On the morning of 20 September 2025, a 37-year-old Malaysian man was arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs, including 1,908g of heroin and 1,655g of cannabis, in a Malaysian-registered car at Tuas Checkpoint. 

2.        Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers had directed the car for enhanced checks and found two black bundles suspected to contain controlled drugs, concealed within the rear boot panel. Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers were immediately alerted to the detection and subsequently conducted further checks, which uncovered an additional six black bundles hidden in various compartments of the car.

3.        A total of about 1,908g of heroin, 1,655g of cannabis and 268g of ‘Ice’ were seized from the car. The drugs seized have an estimated worth of more than $394,000 and could potentially feed the addiction of about 1,300 abusers for a week.

4.        Investigations are ongoing. Under Section 7 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, those who import into or export from Singapore more than 15g of diamorphine or “pure heroin”, or more than 250g of methamphetamine, or more than 500g of cannabis may face the death penalty.

5.        ICA will continue to work with CNB to prevent attempts to smuggle drugs across our borders. ICA will also continue to conduct security checks at the checkpoints to prevent attempts to smuggle undesirable persons, weapons, explosives and other contrabands across our borders.
