Large amount of Cannabis seized; seizure could feed 1,040 abusers for a week

In an operation conducted by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) on 19 March 2025, drugs including about 6.9kg of cannabis, estimated to be worth more than SGD184,000, were seized. This large seizure of drugs could potentially feed the addiction of about 1,040 abusers for a week.
2. In the early afternoon of 19 March, CNB officers raided a residential unit in a private residential estate in the vicinity of Cavenagh Road. Forced entry was effected as the occupant of the unit refused to heed the lawful orders of the officers to be granted access into the unit. The occupant, a 26-year-old Singaporean man, was arrested within one of the bedrooms in the unit.

A search of the bedroom in which the suspect was arrested within led to the recovery of about 6,885g of cannabis, 69g of ‘Ice’, 21g of ketamine, 20g of ‘Ecstasy’, six LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) stamps and six bottles of GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate). A small amount of cannabis, ketamine and cash of SGD6,229.50 and small amounts of foreign currencies were also found on the man.
4. The man was then escorted to his car parked in the same residential compound and a search of the car led to the recovery of about 25g of cannabis, 25g of psilocybin mushrooms, 17g of ‘Ice’ and a small amount of ketamine.

5. Senior Assistant Commissioner Sng Chern Hong, Deputy Director CNB (Policy & Administration), said:
“This large cannabis seizure is indicative that cannabis is still in demand. CNB would like to remind the public that cannabis is not a ‘harmless vegetable substance’ as is often misleadingly portrayed, especially by those lobbying for cannabis legalisation. A comprehensive literature review conducted by experts from Singapore’s Institute of Mental Health affirmed the addictive and harmful nature of cannabis, such as causing damage to the brain, and cannabis use has been associated with serious mental health issues1. Make no mistake about it, cannabis is harmful.”
6. Under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, it is an offence for a person, on his or her own behalf, or on behalf of any other person, whether or not that other person is in Singapore, to traffic in a controlled drug, offer to traffic in a controlled drug; or to do or offer to do any act preparatory to or for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug. If a person is found guilty of trafficking more than 500g of cannabis, he or she may face the mandatory death penalty.
7. Investigations into the drug activities of the arrested suspect are ongoing.
