Lighting the way to a stronger, drug-free Singapore

        On 26 June 2025, Singapore demonstrated its united stand for the drug-free cause once again with the annual DrugFreeSG Light-Up. Marking the eighth year of this initiative organised by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), it continues to rally the community together to pledge their support for a drug-free world where everyone can live, work and play safely. 

2.     This year’s DrugFreeSG Light-Up saw various buildings and structures in Singapore, including iconic ones in the Marina Bay area, illuminated in green or white from 7.30pm to midnight. Green and white are the colours of the Anti-Drug Ribbon1 which symbolises the nation’s unwavering stance against drugs, and it has also been adopted by ASEAN member countries as a symbol of the anti-drug movement. 

3.      In all, 48 partners participated this year, including two new partners supporting the DrugFreeSG Light-Up with their visible pledges for the first time2. The Ministry of Digital Development and Information, the Ministry of Education and the People’s Association, who are members of the Inter-Ministry Committee (IMC) on Drug Prevention for Youths, also lit up their headquarters in support of a drug-free Singapore. The IMC was set up in August 2023 to develop a whole-of-Government response to tackle the growing drug problem among our youth.

First introduced during the launch of the 1996 National Anti-Drug Abuse Campaign – “Stay Clear – Drug Abuse Causes Permanent Damage to Your Body and Mind” organised under the banner of the National Council Against Drug Abuse (NCADA).

Internationally

Officially adopted in 2015 as the anti-drug abuse symbol at the Asia-Pacific Forum Against Drug (APFAD). It was later adopted as the symbol for preventive drug education and campaigns throughout ASEAN to spread a common message among youth and communities to be resilient against drug abuse at the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Drug Matters (AMMD) in 2016.
