Man wanted for drug trafficking in Singapore arrested in Malaysia; returns to Singapore to face charges

The Central Narcotics Bureau arrested a 37-year-old Singaporean man on 20 October 2024 who was wanted in connection with several cases of drug trafficking and other drug-related offences committed between 2014 and 2024. The man was also wanted by the Police to assist in investigations into two cases of voluntarily causing grievous hurt and cheating by impersonation.

2. The man was first arrested and charged in court on 3 April 2014 with three counts of drug trafficking and one count of drug consumption. He was then released on bail by the Court. He failed to attend court on 12 June 2017 and an arrest warrant was issued against him.

3. The man was arrested in Malaysia on 1 October 2024 by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) of the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) for criminal and immigration offences. He was subsequently deported to Singapore on 20 October 2024 and arrested by CNB on the same day.

4. Senior Assistant Commissioner Leon Chan, Acting Director of CNB expressed his appreciation to NCID/RMP on behalf of CNB:

“CNB would like to thank NCID/RMP for their strong support in rendering assistance to CNB for this case. Drug traffickers thinking to evade our law by hiding overseas will find that there is no safe haven. The close cooperation between CNB and NCID/RMP and the eventual arrest of the man in this operation is testament to the strong working relationship that CNB has with them. We thank our Malaysian counterparts for the cooperation to bring the suspect back to Singapore to face the law.”

5. The man was brought to Court to face the original 2014 drug charges. CNB is also pursuing investigations into the other cases of drug trafficking.
