Singapore's Drug Victims Remembrance Day campaign culminates in region-wide light-up in solidarity
26 June 2026
On 26 June 2026, Singapore concluded its third Drug Victims Remembrance Day campaign with the annual DrugFreeSG Light-Up, joining ASEAN Member States in a collective show of support for victims of drug abuse and their families.
2. First introduced by Singapore in 2024, the Drug Victims Remembrance Day is observed annually in May and serves as a reminder of the far-reaching and often unseen impact of drug abuse. Building on Singapore’s efforts, ASEAN Member States adopted ASEAN Drug Victims Remembrance Day this year, with 26 June marking the inaugural regional observance. The initiative underscores the shared commitment among ASEAN Member States to raise awareness of the impact of drugs on individuals, families and communities, and to stand in solidarity with those affected by drug abuse.
3. Singapore’s campaign this year centred on "The Library of Stories, Unfinished”, an exhibition held at Suntec City from 15 to 17 May 2026. By presenting the stories of drug victims through different lens and engagement formats including immersive character-driven rooms, the exhibition highlighted the far-reaching impact of drug abuse on individuals, families and communities, while also showcasing efforts across ASEAN to combat the drug problem. Visitors were also invited to light a candle in remembrance of those affected by drug abuse and leave messages of support and reflection as a symbol of solidarity with drug victims.

4. Throughout the campaign period, outreach efforts continued across Singapore through a series of community pop-ups and engagements at various heartland locations and malls. These engagements encouraged members of the public to learn more about the impact of drug abuse, listen to the stories of those affected and reflect on their role in keeping Singapore drug-free.

5. The campaign culminated on 26 June 2026 with the DrugFreeSG Light-Up and the inaugural ASEAN Drug Victims Remembrance Day. Along with ASEAN Member States, Singapore marked the occasion by illuminating iconic buildings and landmarks in green and/or white from 7.30pm to midnight. This is our community’s symbolic demonstration of support for victims of drug abuse and Singapore’s shared commitment to a drug-free future.
6. Green and white are the colours of the Anti-Drug Ribbon1, which symbolises Singapore's unwavering stance against drugs. The Anti-Drug Ribbon has also been adopted by ASEAN Member States as a symbol of the region's anti-drug movement.
7. Forty-nine local partners participated in the DrugFreeSG Light-Up this year, including 11 new partners supporting with their visible pledges for the first time2. The Ministry of Digital Development and Information and the Ministry of Education, who are members of the Inter-Ministry Committee (IMC) on Drug Prevention for Youths3, also lit up their headquarters in solidarity for a drug-free Singapore.
8. Recognising the ripples of impact from the harms of drug abuse, Singapore will continue to focus on preventive drug education. The support shown through Drug Victims Remembrance Day, the inaugural ASEAN Drug Victims Remembrance Day, and the DrugFreeSG Light-Up reflects a shared commitment by communities across Singapore and the region to reject drugs and protect future generations from their harmful effects. Together, we can build a safer, healthier and drug-free Singapore and beyond.
