Six arrested for suspected drug offences; drugs seized enough to feed 980 abusers for a week

            On 2 August 2023, Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers arrested six men for suspected drug offences. A total of about 1,066g of heroin, 556g of ‘Ice’, 1,102g of cannabis, three Erimin-5 tablets, eight bottles of methadone and 38g of unknown powdery substances believed to be controlled drugs, with an estimated value of more than $191,300, were seized. The seizure of 1,066g of heroin, 556g of ‘Ice’ and 1,102g of cannabis can feed the addiction of about 980 abusers for a week.

Three Singaporeans arrested for suspected drug trafficking in the vicinity of Lorong 1 Toa Payoh

2.         In the afternoon of 2 August, three Singaporeans aged 54, 55 and 56 were arrested in a residential unit in the vicinity of Lorong 1 Toa Payoh. Forced entry was effected as the occupants refused to heed the lawful orders of the officers to open the door. Officers searched the unit and found about 1,066g of heroin, 556g of ‘Ice’, 89g of cannabis, three Erimin-5 tablets, eight bottles of methadone and 38g of unknown powdery substances believed to be controlled drugs.

Three foreign nationals arrested for suspected drug offences at Woodlands Checkpoint

3.         Later the same evening, three foreign nationals entering Singapore were arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint for suspected drug offences. The men were in a Malaysia-registered vehicle and stopped for security checks by SPF K-9 officers, who then detected a bundle of cannabis in the vehicle during the routine check. CNB officers were immediately alerted of the detection and arrested the men. Further check on the car recovered another bundle of cannabis. In total, two bundles of cannabis weighing about 1,013g were recovered from the vehicle.

4.         Under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, it is an offence for a person, on his or her own behalf, or on behalf of any other person, whether or not that other person is in Singapore, to traffic in a controlled drug, offer to traffic in a controlled drug; or to do or offer to do any act preparatory to or for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug. If a person is found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of pure heroin (diamorphine) or 250g of methamphetamine or 500g of cannabis, he or she may face the mandatory death penalty.

5.         Investigations into all arrested suspects are ongoing. CNB, together with the Home Team agencies, will continue to conduct regular checks and launch timely operations to disrupt any attempts of importation and circulation of controlled drugs in Singapore.
