Three 19-year-olds arrested; drugs seized enough to feed 390 abusers for a week

Three 19-year-old suspected drug offenders were arrested in an operation conducted by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) on 18 September 2024, which saw a sizeable amount of cannabis and ‘Ice’ seized. The drugs seized in this operation are worth an estimated $78,000 and could potentially feed the addiction of 390 abusers for a week. All three suspects are Singaporeans.

2. In the early evening hours of 18 September, CNB officers arrested two 19-year-old suspects – a man and a woman – in a residential unit in the vicinity of Rivervale Walk. Officers recovered various drug paraphernalia within the bedroom of the 19-year-old man, including a digital weighing scale.

3. CNB officers then escorted the two suspects to a residential unit, rented by the man, at a private residential estate in the vicinity of Hougang Avenue 7. A search of the unit led to the recovery of about 486g of ‘Ice’ and 695g of cannabis.

4. In a follow-up operation, officers proceeded to raid a residential unit in the vicinity of Serangoon North Avenue 3. A 19-year-old man was arrested within a bedroom of the unit. A search of the bedroom led to the recovery of about 24g of ‘Ice’, various drug paraphernalia and cash amounting to $11,400.

5. Senior Assistant Commissioner Sng Chern Hong, Deputy Director CNB (Policy & Administration), said of this operation:

“Yet another CNB operation saw the arrest of teenagers and, this time, with a large amount of drugs that could potentially feed the addiction of about 390 abusers for a week. It is disheartening to see not just three young lives destroyed by drugs but also their families and loved ones becoming victims of drugs and drug abuse. We cannot but again emphasise, that parents need to join us in efforts to educate the young on the harms of drugs and its destructive effects on families and society. Let’s start the conversation now, before it is too late.”

6. Under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA) 1973, it is an offence for a person, on his or her own behalf, or on behalf of any other person, whether or not that other person is in Singapore, to traffic in a controlled drug, offer to traffic in a controlled drug; or to do or offer to do any act preparatory to or for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug. If a person is found guilty of trafficking more than 250g of methamphetamine, or more than 500g of cannabis, he or she may face the mandatory death penalty.

7. Investigations into the drug activities of the arrested suspects are ongoing.
