Two CNB operations net large haul of Heroin; Drugs seized enough to feed 590 abusers for a week

On 19 June 2024, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) carried out two operations which saw the seizure of a large amount of heroin and also other drugs. The estimated worth of the drugs seized in these two operations is about $131,000 and the 1,140g of heroin and 89g of 'Ice' seized can feed the addiction of about 590 abusers for a week.

2. In the afternoon of 19 June, CNB officers arrested a 67-year-old Singaporean man in the vicinity of Telok Blangah Drive for suspected drug activities. The man was then escorted to his residential unit whereupon a search of the unit led to the recovery of about 536g of heroin and 65g of ‘Ice’.

3. In the same evening, CNB officers raided a residential unit in the vicinity of Cassia Crescent and arrested two suspected drug traffickers within the kitchen of the unit, a 29-year-old Malaysian man and a 42-year-old Singaporean man.

4. From the waist pouch on the 29-year-old man, officers recovered about 478g of heroin and two bottles of methadone. Officers also recovered about 126g of heroin and 24g of ‘Ice’ found on the kitchen floor, near to where the 42-year-old man was seated during the arrest.

5. Under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, it is an offence for a person, on his or her own behalf, or on behalf of any other person, whether or not that other person is in Singapore, to traffic in a controlled drug, offer to traffic in a controlled drug; or to do or offer to do any act preparatory to or for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug. If a person is found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of diamorphine or “pure heroin”, he or she may face the mandatory death penalty.

6. Investigations into the drug activities of the arrested suspects are ongoing.
