Two Singaporean men wanted for drug trafficking and other misuse of drugs act offences in Singapore arrested in Malaysia; return to Singapore to face charges

Two Singaporean men (aged 48 and 35) have been arrested by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) on 12 June 2024 for suspected drug trafficking and other Misuse of Drugs Regulations offences.
2. The 48-year-old man is wanted by CNB for suspected drug trafficking activities in Singapore while the 35-year-old man is wanted by CNB for failing to report for urine tests since October 2023.
3. The two men were arrested by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) of the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) on 29 May 2024. In that operation, the NCID arrested 14 suspects for drug trafficking and seized RM11.6 million worth of drugs at various locations in Johor Baru, Malaysia1. The two men were handed over to CNB on 12 June 2024, and arrests by CNB were effected immediately upon their return to Singapore.
4. In expressing appreciation to the NCID/RMP, SAC Leon Chan, Acting Director of CNB, said:
“We thank our Malaysian counterparts for their assistance and swift action in bringing the suspects back to Singapore to face the law. There is no safe haven for drugs and both agencies will continue to work closely together to stamp out illicit drug activities.”
5. The two men were charged in court on 13 June 2024 for drug trafficking and failing to report for urine tests. If convicted, they may face sentences of up to 30 years or life imprisonment with 15 strokes of the cane.
