Two suspected drug traffickers arrested; drugs seized enough to feed 907 abusers for a week

On 2 January 2024, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) arrested two men for suspected drug trafficking offences. About 1,427g of ‘Ice’, 193g of heroin, 211 Erimin-5 tablets, 94 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets and one bottle of methadone, with an estimated value of more than $470,000 were seized. The seizure of about 1,427g of ‘Ice’ and 193g of heroin can feed the addiction of about 907 abusers for a week.

2. In the afternoon of 2 January, CNB officers arrested a 53-year-old Singaporean man at a lift landing of a residential block in the vicinity of Jurong West Street 52 for suspected drug trafficking offences. The man put up a violent struggle to resist arrest and had to be subdued by officers. The man was escorted to a residential unit in the same block. A search of the man and the residential unit recovered about 1,396g of ‘Ice’, 96g of heroin, 211 Erimin-5 tablets, 94 ‘Ecstasy’ tablets and one bottle of methadone.

3. In another operation conducted in the same afternoon, a 62-year-old Singaporean man was arrested at a walkway of a residential block in the same vicinity for suspected drug trafficking offences. CNB officers conducted a search on the man and recovered about 97g of heroin and 31g of ‘Ice’ concealed on his person.

4. Under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, it is an offence for a person, on his or her own behalf, or on behalf of any other person, whether or not that other person is in Singapore, to traffic in a controlled drug, offer to traffic in a controlled drug; or to do or offer to do any act preparatory to or for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug. If a person is found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of diamorphine or “pure heroin” or 250g of methamphetamine, he or she may face the mandatory death penalty.

5. Investigations into the drug activities of all arrested suspects are ongoing.
